David's Fork Baptist Church is a friendly, family church with a loving spirit. It is a church for you to call "home."
In September 1781, the congregation of the Upper Spottsylvania Baptist Church left Virginia journeying toward Kentucky in hopes of finding new fertile lands and religious freedom. The "Traveling Church," accompanied by slaves and emigrants who attached themselves to the expidition completed the 600 mile expidition under the capable leadership ofRev. Lewis Craig, minister, and Captain William Ellis, military expert. Some of the members settled in the Lancaster Region, while others ventured to the beautiful Bluegrass territory making their home near the headwaters of Boone's Creek.
Originally, David's Fork Baptist Church was a part of Bryan Station Baptist Church, but in 1801 David's Fork became a separately organized church. Both churches retained the same pastor for a period of time. David's Fork held its meetings on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month. In 1856 a committee was appointed to select a suitable site for a new church building. The present location was chosen, and the structure which houses our present sanctuary was dedicated on the first weekend in December, 1857. In 1952 an annex was added to the church which now houses church offices, a library, fellowship hall, and some educational space. The sanctuary was built in 1936.
